Growing up in Brooklyn, he nurtured dreams of playing in a major league baseball team one day, but he found himself unable to secure a spot even in a minor league organization, so he gave up, and looked for something else to do.

He became a bellman at a hotel in New Jersey, and began training for a career in stand-up comedy there.

As a comedian, he became successful, toured the country, appeared in numerous shows, and starred in the sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter.

As he began to gradually secure his finances, he became involved with poker. The first ever WSOP he took part on, was the 1978 one. He began finishing in the money, (he now has 9 such money finishes) and he reached as high as 13^th place in the 1991 Main Event.

His biggest win was a third place in a WPT event, which netted him about $250k, in 2004. He also has three other WPT money finishes.
