Born in 1972, in Paris, David Benyamine is a French professional poker player who currently plays for Team Full Tilt, Full Tilt Poker’s in-house team of professionals.
Competition was always right up David Benyamine’s alley. When younger, he was one of his country’s top ranking tennis players.
Problems with his back though, forced him to compete in a different, non-physical sport. He became a successful pool player, but he knew he had to look for something different to satisfy his unquenchable thirst for even more competition.
He had learned to play poker at the age of 12, and given its fiercely competitive nature, the game looked like the answer to David Benyamine’s needs: after a successful run in Parisian casinos, he decided to go pro, and leave pool behind.
Although he is mostly known as a high-stakes cash player (he is a regular in the “Big game” at the Bellagio), he’s not half bad as a tournament player either.
He has a WPT title to show, 2 final tables and 8 money finishes. In the WSOP he has 2 money finishes, although a bracelet has so far eluded him.
One of his most notable feats is his 2003 victory in the Grand Prix de Paris, when he beat players like Daniel Negreanu and Eric Lindgren, on his way to a $411k first prize.
In 2004, he finished 6th in the LA poker classic and earned $132k.
In 2005, he finished 4th in the Full Tilt Poker.net Global Poker Challenge.
Because his named bore a striking similarity to that of a terror suspect, he got deported from the U.S. in 2004. After managing to sort out the misunderstanding though, he was allowed back.
His lifetime poker winnings exceed $1.5 million. You can find him playing online at Full Tilt Poker these days.
