“Time really cures everything,” Ortiz said. “Dana came to me and was a man of his word. Me and Dana made up.”
The lure of the UFC’s deep light heavyweight division proved too great for Ortiz to turn down. Ortiz had reportedly drawn significant interest from Strikeforce.
“For me, personally, it’s about the competition,” Ortiz said. “Financially and everything, I’m OK. Competition was the biggest factor. If I fight for Strikeforce, who am I going to fight? The best fighters are in the UFC. I’m happy. You’ll never hear anything about money out of my mouth ever again.”
Ortiz declared himself fit for competition.
“I’m healthy,” he said. “There’s no more pain, no more numbness going down my legs. Everybody in the light heavyweight division better watch out.”

Belfort Signs with UFC, Will Fight Franklin
Friday, July 31, 2009
Joe Hall
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort will return to the Octagon Sept. 19 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, where he will fight former middleweight champ Rich Franklin.
UFC President Dana White announced the UFC 103 bout Friday during a media conference call. To make the matchup, he nixed a previously announced rematch between Franklin and Dan Henderson.
“The fans didn’t like (Henderson-Franklin), so we’re going to change it,” White said.
Belfort-Franklin will take place at 205 pounds. As for Henderson, White said he is “definitely next in line” for Anderson Silva’s middleweight title. The UFC president said Demian Maia and Nate Marquardt, who meet Aug. 29 at UFC 102, are in the mix.

update:

It appears Strikeforce officials aren’t “weighting” around to see if Aug. 15 headliners Gina Carano and “Cyborg” Santos hit the 145-pound mark for their upcoming women’s championship bout — PFC veteran Erin Toughill (10-2-1) has been put on notice as a potential replacement, according to MMA Fanhouse.
After a string of injuries and medical maladies have shredded the San Jose fight card, it’s no wonder that Toughill is lurking in the shadows for a possible call up. Joe Riggs, Alistair Overeem and Josh Thomson have all been forced to withdraw from their main card matches and Strikeforce isn’t taking any chances with its main event.

The bout had originally been scheduled to take place at Affliction “Trilogy” on Aug. 1 in Anaheim, Calif. However, Affliction cancelled the event on July 24.

A rematch against UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, not Rich Franklin at UFC 103 on Sept. 19, is what Dan Henderson can focus on now that company president Dana White has shuffled the deck in the wake of Affliction MMA’s demise.
Affliction refugee Vitor Belfort is now booked to replace Henderson opposite Franklin in the UFC 103 main event, which had fans less than thrilled when it was announced earlier this month.
White did not announce a hard date for Silva-Henderson 2, saying that it will all depend on “how banged up” Silva is after challenging Forrest Griffin in a non-title 205-pound special attraction next weekend at UFC 101.
