If you have the problem of no sound..update your video viewing software....video is fine....
Summary,,I viewed this today (4-29- . It is very nuts and bolts..and for someone like me (newish)...looking for hard and fast rules to fall upon in the heat of battle...it does a great job (as far as I know LOL). It will take along time to digest...which is good...alot of info...
thanks first of all.
but one thing that perplexed me... he is saying that the chances to get dealt AA is 110 to 1. i thought it is 220 to 1 or like sklansky says absolutely correct: 221 to 1 anyone of you has an idea why ??? but the rest is a lot of good info!!
I've just watched a small part of the video, and I'm a bit confused. I don't understand why he hasn't checked the math. The odds of getting dealt AA is indeed 220 to 1. Also the chance of flopping a pair (or better) is 33%, and not 12%. The probability of hitting your top pair (not neccesarily _the_ top pair is 17%. So I don't know where this number 12% comes from. 12% is about the chance of hitting TRIPS when you have a pocket pair... This gives me a bit of an amature feel.
I'm not too fond of his pre-flop strategy in early position. I don't think limping is often a good idea here, and I would especially not do it with hands like KJs and ATs. These are not hands that you should want to be playing out of position, especially as a beginner. And in late position, if everybody has folded to you, limping is not a good idea. You don't want to give the BB a chance to see a free flop. You can easily raise all pocket pairs here. Strategy to play from the blinds is meh. From what I've seen in the first 20 minutes, this video is not so good/pretty bad. It seems to touch on a lot of topics, which is good because it makes you familiar with important hold'em concepts. But the way that they deal with these concepts is done very poorly. Some of the most important ideas are in a quiz(?!) And he spends more time explaining the mechanics than the underlying concepts. I'd much rather recommend: Howard Lederer's Secret's of NL Hold'em - for real beginners Harrington on Hold'em / Harrington on Cash games - for both beginners and advanced players Also, if you want to watch a video, I would recommend for beginning/intermediate players: -full tilt poker with phil gordon (basic, but gets you thinking in the right way) -Annie Duke's advanced texas hold'em secrets, how to beat the big boys. (In depth, lots of cool stuff in here) |
